Preliminary Script

This is a script for my preliminary work, it will be used to make sure I have dialogue in my film and so that my actors know what the narrative and dialogue they have to do. It helped me understand how I should layout and word my actual film.

Medium shot of character 1 walking up to a door then, a close up of character 1 knocking on the door in a close up. Then switches to character 2 sat down within the room, then turning head towards the door.  After that switch back to outside character 2 opens the door.

Character 2: You’re late (push door further open to allow character 1 in)

Both characters come in to the room and sit down character 2 leading the way.

Character 2: I assume you have it.

Character 1: This makes us even, right?

Character 2: Correct, at least that’s right if you’ve brought what I want.

Character 2: Now, can I see it?

Cut to the next shot (5) character 1 struggles to get the part out. Then back to other shot.

Character 1: This is what you wanted, yeah?

Cuts to character 2 inspecting the part.

Character 2: Yes this should work, thank you for your cooperation.

Character 2 pockets the part.

Character 2: Thank you for this you can leave now.

Character 1: That’s it?

Character 2: Goodbye >name<

The Improved Storyboard

The Improved Storyboard 

This is my improved storyboard, because my previous original draft of my storyboard was quite messy and would hard for others to follow. In my improved version I have colour coded the characters so that they are easier to find (character 1 being read, character 2 being green). As well as this I also added a scene on the second page with a close up of the prop, this is to make the audience more interested in why its important, added more notes such as camera shots for all the shots instead of a few and more notes on how the shot will play out. Altogether this makes understanding my work a lot easier for me in the future as well as my peers.

Storyboard Draft

Storyboard Draft

This is the first draft of my storyboard, I have done it on post-it notes so that I can swap and change scenes to get the correct order I want. Planning my scenes will be important for when I begin filming as I already have a visual reference for want I want it to look like when done, the storyboard also helps make sure I get all the shots and camera movement that the brief needs.  

After this I will be making a cleaner version that will be easier to read and understand, as well as finishing my script.

Preliminary Research on Camera Work

Preliminary Research on the
 Task and its shots

For my first bit of preliminary research I am going to look into what the task wants me to do, such as match on action, continuity, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule. This will be useful as I can fully comply with the brief if I know what the terms mean. It has helped me gain knowledge of camera angles and shots that I can add to my storyboards and films for my preliminary and actual film.

Continuity:

Continuity is where a scene flows correctly and that details are correct. This could be such as making sure that the way a character opens a door is the same from both sides.

180-Degree:

The 180-degree rule is where the two characters would be across from each other, they should maintain the same left/right relationship, and this could be used when maintaining continuity when exchanging lines.

Match on action:

Match on action is a type of editing where it is cut to another view that matches the first. An example of this would be a character walking up to a door, then cuts to a close up of the character reaching for the doorknob.

Shot/reverse shot:

Shot reverse shot is a technique is where one character is shown 

looking at another character. This is useful for continuity and

 exchanging lines between characters.

This is a action plan of what research I plan on doing, I have done this as it will help me plan further research and how I want to do it so that I do not miss any piece of research or planning. This has helped me realise that a lot of planning will help make sure my blog is complete.
